“Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind.” -Dr Seuss.
It’s a wonderful quote and the secret to a happy life because when your thoughts, words and actions are working together, there is no stress being created inside of your body.
The moment you change your behaviour because you want to fit in or you do not want to upset somebody else, you are causing conflict within your own mind. This conflict causes your body to become stressed because your thoughts, words and actions are no longer working together. Stress is one of the most debilitating illnesses to affect the human body. The symptoms of stress are easy to see, such as
- Low energy.
- Upset stomach, including diarrhoea, constipation and nausea.
- Aches, pains, and tense muscles.
- Chest pain and rapid heartbeat.
- Frequent colds and infections.
- Loss of sexual desire and/or ability.
If you suffered from these symptoms for a long time, it’s not going to be good for you.
The cause of these symptoms are not so easy to be found, especially if the cause is your behaviour towards others. If you’re aware to the symptoms, and the behaviour that caused it, it’s your responsibility to your own health to change; either you change the people you’re with, or you change your attitude towards the people you’re with. Both will solve the cause of being stressed, and both are within your power to accomplish.
A man who understood this was Muhammad Ali, he was a great ambassador for the power of being himself.
“I know where I’m going and I know the truth, and I don’t have to be what you want me to be. I’m free to be me.” – Muhammad Ali.
