“If you want to live a happy life, tie it to a goal, not to people or things.” ~Albert Einstein. The goals over which you have most control are your personal behavioural goals, the desire to be happy is a fundament goal everybody wants, but we know that happiness is a state of mind and not a goal that can be achieved. The following goals are achievable, and if you reach them in the order that they’re written, you will find your life is forever changed for the better.
A positive mental attitude:
A clear mental picture of yourself, (warts and all) and seeing only positive feelings towards your image, thoughts and actions. Believe you’re going to succeed in everything you do is fifty percent of achieving it. There are so many positive thoughts going through your mind, there’s no room for doubt.
The desire to only see a doctor when passing them in the street is one of my goals. The saying, “health is only appreciated when you lose it,” is real, but when you learn to be grateful for your good health every day, you will attract good health into your life. Your self-conscious mind will direct you towards the activities that will help you to keep your good health.
I don’t know anybody who enjoys living with the enemy, I’m sure you’ll agree a happy atmosphere in your home is more important than anything else. Regardless of anything else that’s happening in your life, it’s necessary to be able to shut your front door and leave your troubles outside. If you can manage it, you should also not listen to the news in your home because good news doesn’t sell and is therefore not shared on television.
Freedom from fear:
I’ve covered this in a previous blog (The six most common fears), but in short most fears disappear when you face them.
Hope for the future:
The desire for a better future needs to be strong for a better future to evolve, the person who has given up on hope, has no hope of improving their current position.
Put faith into practice:
God, the Universe, and you will prevail if you believe you’re going to, it’s a great way of looking at life, when you pray to your God, regardless of his name, you are talking to your self-conscious mind which in turn will try to find the answer to your prayers, the more emotion you put into your prayers the stronger and faster your prayers will be answered.
Willing to be generous:
Helping other people is one of life’s great rewards, the gift the recipient receives is normally something they can hold, but the giver receives a feeling that can’t be bought, and can’t be adequately described by words either.
Working at things they love:
“Find something you love to do and you’ll never have to work a day in your life” –Harvey MacKay. A truer sentence has never been said because when you love what you do, you never consider is as work. Pick one thing you love to do, say, going for a walk on a sunny afternoon, now imagine getting paid for doing that.
Open minded towards subjects and people:
Open minded people are happier than most because they believe that everybody has an opinion and it is their right to share that opinion, they listen, but that doesn’t mean they agree with the other person’s opinion, if you get two open minded people discussing a subject, both people might become wiser for having the conversation. Of course, you will only be open minded with closed minded people once, a second conversation should be avoided.
The ability to do what you said you’re going to do is at the heart of everything you wish to accomplish. When you’re never disappointed yourself, you will not wish to disappoint anybody else.
Wisdom to understand people:
“Life is really simple, but we insist on making it complicated.” – Confucius. And that is why it’s important to understand people; unless you’re going to live in seclusion, you will have to interact with other people from time to time. Interacting with people is easier if you try to understand the motives behind their actions because they will not tell you, even if they understand why they behave the way they do or speak the words they use.
Financial security is the least important goal in life but it’s on top of most people’s goals to achieve in their lifetime, it’s only when they have achieved richness do they realise how unimportant it really is. Look at so called celebrities on the daily papers, they may have financial security but they seem to be far from happy because they have achieved the important goals.
“Yesterday I was clever, so I wanted to change the world. Today I am wise, so I am changing myself.” ~Rumi.
